Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act
Providence, RI -- Apr 25, 2013 -- Over the years, UNFI has followed closely, and in many cases supported, state measures aimed at requiring the labeling of genetically engineered foods. That’s why we were pleased to hear that legislative action on food transparency has now made it to the national level.
As some of you may know, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR) have introduced a bill to require manufacturers to inform consumers if a product contains genetically engineered ingredients.
Anyone who feels passionate about the issue can find out more information and get involved through the Just Label It! campaign, which is running an outreach effort to members of Congress through this link.
UNFI’s commitment to food labeling is longstanding. We played a crucial role in founding the Non-GMO Project and we have provided support to the Just Label It! campaign and, most recently, to a state effort to require the labeling of genetically engineered foods in Washington State.
We hope our business partners and associates will continue to follow the news and stay up to date on this important issue. It not only affects our industry but also the integrity of the food we all eat.
