Melody Meyer named to The Organic Center’s Board of Trustees
Providence, RI -- Mar 06, 2013 -- The Organic Center has appointed UNFI Vice President for Policy and Industry Relations Melody Meyer to a two-year term on the organization’s Board of Trustees.
The Organic Center is dedicated to evidence-based science on the health and environmental benefits of organic food and farming. It strives for greater awareness and demand for organic products through research, education, partnerships and by serving as a media and public policy resource.
The organization announced last September it would combine efforts with the Organic Trade Association and relocate its headquarters from Boulder, CO, to Washington, D.C. An Interim Board of Directors is currently laying the groundwork for the new Board of Trustees. The appointees will be responsible for shaping the organization’s future and navigating the numerous and continually changing needs of the organic community.
Melody comes to the new role with more than 37 years of experience in the organic and natural foods industry, including nine years in international trade and development. She worked as a broker specialist and founded her own business, Source Organic, in 1995. She headed the procurement department for Albert’s Organics and currently serves as executive director of the UNFI Foundation. Melody sits on the California Department of Food and Agriculture Organic Products Advisory Board and the Organic Trade Association Board of Directors.
