Each September marks Hunger Action Month, a nationwide effort to raise awareness and inspire action around hunger in America. Recently, the UNFI Foundation announced $1.5 Million in grants to 61 organizations focused on creating a more sustainable and equitable food system.

In celebration of Hunger Action Month, we are highlighting a handful of those organizations we support as they share more about their unique story and why improving access to quality food is as important to them as it is to all of us at UNFI.

Food Forward is one of our 2024 grantees, and every day they work to bring fresh surplus fruits and vegetables to people experiencing food insecurity. The organization does this by delivering healthy produce free of charge to hundreds of hunger relief organizations across Southern California and beyond.

In the LinkedIn video, listen to Jen Cox, Chief Development Officer at Food Forward, details how the UNFI Foundation is supporting the organization’s mission and enabling it to reach its highest goal ever – recovering and distributing more than 88 million pounds of fresh produce this year.

Stay tuned throughout the month as we spotlight more organizations aimed at delivering positive change to one or more of the UNFI Foundation’s new focus areas of climate smart agriculture, food access innovations, food equity, and local food economies.
