This past quarter, UNFI began delivering to natural and organic customers from its new, state-of-the-art distribution center (DC) in Manchester, PA, transitioning service from its York facility eight miles away. The new location is nearly 50% larger than York, encompassing more than 1.3 million square feet, and is poised to become a cornerstone of both efficiency and career development within central Pennsylvania.
The facility will house an impressive array of over 18,000 products (SKUs), catering to the diverse needs of UNFI's growing clientele. This vast selection underscores the Company's continuing commitment to help retail customers differentiate and compete in a highly dynamic and competitive environment.
The DC’s strategic location boasts an impressive delivery range, servicing customers within a 200-mile radius. This expansive reach ensures that more than 1,000 customers will receive timely and efficient deliveries, helping retail customers execute their strategies more effectively than ever before.
In addition to employing between 850 to 900 associates, the new DC will also deploy a cutting-edge case-picking robotic system that is expected to be operational by early spring 2025. This integration of advanced technology with a human touch underscores UNFI's commitment to not only delivering better food but also creating a better future.
More than just a workplace, UNFI's new Manchester DC is a place where careers can be nurtured and grown. In fact, a significant portion of the driver team started as warehouse associates and took advantage of the ‘warehouse to wheels’ program to launch their career as professional drivers.
“This is a warehouse where careers grow, we are much more than a ‘job,’” said Tim Grenvik, Director of Site Operations for the Manchester DC. “Most of the supervisors and managers started their UNFI careers as selectors, loaders, and lift truck operators. We like to cultivate talent and grow from within.”
